Victorian Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie has dismissed calls from the Acting Shadow Minister Graham Perrett to ban the importation of the five-shot Adler lever-action shotgun, labelling Labor’s concerns as insulting to Australia’s many thousands of licensed, law-abiding firearm owners.
In her October 7 press release, Senator McKenzie said, “Labor’s concerns that this legal firearm will be available to licensed recreational shooters is an absolute insult to the estimated 800,000 owners who respect and obey the law…There is nothing new to the latest five-round version in that it meets current requirements.”
Senator McKenzie also called on Labor to allow the technical review into the National Firearms Agreement to continue without perpetuating false information and stirring up unnecessary hysteria. “Labor’s call for gun laws to be reviewed is precisely what is taking place involving both an Industry Reference Group and the Firearms and Weapons Policy Working Group,” she said. “Labor should resist the urge for lecture on an issue without the facts.”
