The Interclub IRB Championships includes clubs from Guyra, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Koorainghat, Grafton, Inverell, Glen Innes and Armidale and has proved to be a very popular format. Numbers at these shoots range from 40 to 60 participants. The rules are the same as IRB for Custom rifle, but differ in the Hunter rifle class by allowing the rifle to weigh 8lb 12oz, have any power scope, a lightened trigger and a bedded action, but no modification to the stock or barrel is allowed.
Shoots take place on Sundays and we use a similar target to IRB, with the main difference being a small target top left, which all shooters put one round into before commencing the competition. This is to cut down on cross-fires, and shooters check their target to make sure only one bullet has hit. Competition then begins with the same rules as IRB.
We shoot three targets on the day. Entrance fee is $20 and includes a barbecue lunch. Trophies in Custom, which is the most popular class, are given for the Top 3 shooters, Top 3 Ladies and Top 3 Juniors, whereas for the Hunter class, we just award trophies to the Top 3 shooters.
This year’s event, held at Coffs Harbour on April 13, included 14 juniors, which was really pleasing. They came from Armidale, Grafton, Port Macquarie, Guyra, Glenn Innes and Coffs Harbour.
Thanks to all who helped on the day to make the shoot the success it was.
