SSAA ACT Field Rifle State Championships

21 November 2015 - SSAA Majura Range

[ Field Rifle, 3-Positional, Scoped Air Rifle and NRA Any Sight ]

Glorious conditions greeted competitors when the SSAA Majura Range hosted the SSAA ACT Field Rifle State Championships on November 21, 2015. Despite the days leading up to the event all being in the mid 30s, Saturday proved to be a pleasant 26C with little wind. This accommodating environment saw many participants shoot high personal scores. It was great to have a contingent of Sydney shooters turn up, who all represented their St Marys Club with aplomb.

In the morning Rimfire match, it was a single centre ring that made the difference for Alex Brace with a score of 365.05, just beating Russell Cooper on 365.04. Julius Afele, who had never shot this event before having simply turned up with a mate, had a fine time and was able to post a score of 228. Given that he has only shot a few times before, that was an outstanding effort. The older, more experienced members were happy to lend a hand to guide some of the newer people.

The afternoon Centrefire match saw the wind pick up a little, as it often does at the Canberra range. ACT shooter Russell Cooper was able to top the table thanks to a respectable score of 371.03, with Phil Squires, from St Marys, next on 361.03.

Overall, it was a very close State Championships with the scores for second and third spots being separated by two centre rings, and third and fourth by only one point. The organisers would like to thank all the competitors, as everyone pitched in to help make the day a success.
