The 2016 SSAA NSW Hunter State Titles were held at the SSAA Coffs Harbour Branch from May 21 to 24. Once again, the rain held off and the wind only blew in the afternoons, making for some excellent competition and scores over the four days of competition.
Special mention must be made for the Juniors who attended this shoot and really excelled. Thirteen-year-old Zanthie Bailey won the 100 yard Heavy Rimfire with a near-perfect score of 250.7. She finished 14th overall in the Heavy Rimfire, but this only her second major shoot. Mel Frost was the Top Junior with a perfect 250.14 in the 50m and 248.7 in the 100 yard events, placing 10th overall. Local Junior Jeremy Hannaford was second with 248.16 and 249.5 respectively, placing 17th overall. Karl Simpson was third with 246.8 and 247.2. Well done to all the Juniors who participated.
Local shooters who performed well were Gary Hunt who won silver in the 200 yard Heavy Centrefire and Wayne Munro who placed sixth overall in the Heavy Centrefire. Several Australian records were also broken at this shoot, including Norm Bardell in the 50 and 100 Light Rimfire with 499.16, dropping just one shot. Norm Bardell in the Rimfire 2-Gun with 998.40, dropping two shots overall. Darren Parsons in the Heavy Centrefire 200 yard with 250.16 and a perfect 500.37 in the Heavy Centrefire 100/200. Ken Eppleston with 998.52 in the Light and Heavy Centrefire. Well done to all those guys.
A big thank you to all our volunteers over the four days. Without them, these shoots would not take place.
