NT shooting restrictions eased

As restrictions throughout the Northern Territory decrease from midday today (May 1, 2020), SSAA Darwin has implemented a three-stage plan from tomorrow. From May 2 at 8am, casual use of the range will resume with strict guidelines and adherence to social distancing rules the top priority.

The guidelines include but are not limited to: mandatory sign-in to the range by all entrants, shooting time limit of two hours, range for casual use only not for discipline events, no access to clubhouse facilities, all ranges will have social distancing protocols marked on shoot positions and rear benches and shooters must follow normal range rules when proceeding downrange for target setting/patching and retrieval. Many other range rules apply during Stage 1 and adherence to these is mandatory.

SSAA (NT) president Tony Williams said the lifting of restrictions was good news but shooters absolutely must follow the conditions laid down.

Said Tony: “We’re happy to be back participating in the sport we love. The ranges will open only so long as social distancing is observed.

“If everyone can abide by the guidelines and exercise some patience until we’re back to normal, we can all enjoy putting some rounds down-range.”

Stage 2 will begin on May 15 with social distancing protocols still a priority. These rules include but are not limited to: shooters can organise a casual shoot with friends but no discipline events allowed, bar and canteen facilities will reopen with members able to use facilities eg tables and chairs.

Stage 3 will be implemented from June 5 and social distancing protocols will still be of the upmost importance. Rules include: club-organised shoots can commence as long as the prepared Operating Procedure for shoots has been completed and forwarded to the SSAA Darwin branch president. Parks and reserves are also open with a full list available here.

At all times, Northern Territory Government advice and protocols are first priority. Any questions should be directed to SSAA Darwin at [email protected].
