Teamwork the key to success

The 56th SSAA National AGM

April 28-29, 2018

A presentation by University of Queensland criminologist Suzanna Fay-Ramirez was a highlight of the 56th Annual General Meeting of the SSAA in Coolangatta, Queensland in late April. Dr Fay-Ramirez talked of the importance of basing findings on solid evidence and research rather than starting with the answer and trying to find the questions to match.

Delegates came from across the country to listen to the reports on the challenges and successes of the Association during the past 12 months. SSAA National President Geoff Jones said we had “reinforced our position as the most credible representative shooting organisation in Australia by our constant public presence through heightened community, interaction, social media presence, increased political lobbying and, of course, our highly and increasingly successful SSAA SHOT Expos. He said: “We have remained positive, grown and prospered, and a philosophy of strength and numbers will stand us in good stead into the future.”

SSAA National CEO Tim Bannister reported that in 2017, SSAA National had paid the highest ever percentage and dollar value to the states. More than $8,680,000 was distributed to the state associations for their management of ranges, hunting programs and lobbying efforts. In addition, as the SSAA celebrates its 70th year of federation, our membership has grown and the landmark figure of 200,000 members is clearly on the horizon.

At the formal dinner on Saturday night, delegates welcomed special guests National life members James (Stan) Robinson, Les Pratten and Terry Rafter.

SSAA National President Geoff Jones, Senior Vice President Paul McNabb, Junior Vice President Denis Moroney, Secretary Kaye McIntyre and Treasurer Alf Bastian were all re-elected unopposed.
