Alistair McGlashan goes Fish’n with Mates in new TV show

Alistair McGlashan, long-time contributor to magazines in the SSAA’s stable, is hoping to reel in plenty of viewers for his new television fishing program. Al has always been renowned for his reputation as an outdoors adventurer and in this latest TV project, he aims to take that perception to a new level. The program, entitled Al McGlashan’s Fish’n with Mates, is set to launch at 4.30pm on Sunday, October 11 on the 7mate channel, with the second and subsequent episodes screening at 2.30pm on Sundays.

The thrill-filled documentary-style half-hour programs will feature Al embarking on a cluster of fishing treks with various mates at picturesque settings all over the globe. One of the highlights of the seven-part series will be the episode in which he joins up with Australian cricketing legend Matthew Hayden. Together, the pair launches themselves into a madcap schedule of barramundi fishing by helicopter in the Top End.

Other ports of call on Al’s list of exotic destinations include Lake Toho in the Florida Everglades, Papua New Guinea, Louisiana’s Gulf of Mexico and Ascension Island in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Intrepid Al also returns to the Florida Everglades in another episode on the trail of tarpons. Fishing experts agree that these huge fish can jump up out of the water up to half-a-dozen times when hooked, which makes them very challenging to catch. Such traits can also be threatening to anglers before the fish are hooked, as they can also leap without warning.

Al is pumped about the series and is sure that viewers will lap up the frantic action. “This is my best show yet,” he said. “I’m so excited to share the biggest fish in some far-flung locations, and for the first time, we really get to meet some of fishing’s greatest characters...I go on a world tour chasing down the ultimate fishing bucket list locations.”

As well as being a stalwart with Australian Shooter and Australian Hunter magazines for more than 10 years, Al’s book Hunting Australia is available to purchase from our SSAA Store.
