Magellan eXplorist outdoor GPS now compatible with new NSW hunting maps

Magellan has announced selected models in its popular range of eXplorist hand-held GPS devices can now be updated for free to comply with the new NSW Department of Primary Industries’ hunting on public land maps.

A number of important changes to NSW public land hunting laws were implemented earlier this year, following the suspension of public land hunting in July 2013, the transfer of functions into the NSW Department of Primary Industries, and a revised risk assessment conducted by Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW).

The updated Magellan eXplorist devices will now clearly show designated hunting zones in all NSW national parks. Exclusion zones are also clearly marked on an overlay of the Summit Series Topographic maps (available on selected eXplorist models) and safe-to-hunt areas are marked in color. Magellan eXplorist GPS will even alert you when you are close to the border of an exclusion zone to help you stay within the zone.

The eXplorist 610 and eXplorist 710 models come preloaded with the Summit Series Topographic Maps - all you need to do is download the free new hunting maps to the device. Summit Series Topographic maps are also available as an optional download for eXplorist 510 for $149 and 310 models from $49.99 (eXplorist 310 can accommodate only one State map at a time).

Other features of the rugged and waterproof Magellan eXplorist range include the ability to view and record a journey with a sequence of digital breadcrumbs and a backtrack feature to make sure you can always get back to where you started from, as well as a Worldwide Basemap, which shows major road networks, water features, parks, city centres and shaded background relief for more than 200 countries. The Magellan eXplorist 510, 610 and 710 models also include a 3.2 megapixel camera that can take geo-referenced photos.
