Bag a copy of the 2016 Victorian Hunting Guide

Victorian game hunters looking for information about bag limits, season dates and safe and responsible hunting will be well informed with the new Victorian Hunting Guide, released this week. The guide covers updates to hunting arrangements in Victoria for the 2016 seasons.

This year, bag limits have been reduced for duck season - eight birds can be taken on opening day, 19 March, and four birds per day after that, while the blue-winged shoveler cannot be hunted. Hunters of deer, stubble quail and introduced game birds will also find details of season openings and closings, locations and bag limits.

The guide provides important information on hunting laws, licensing, where you can hunt an d responsible hunting, including firearms safety, humanely hunting game and species identification.

Game Management Authority CEO Greg Hyams described the popularity of recreational hunting in Victoria and the importance of the Victorian Hunting Guide. “Game hunting is a popular recreational activity with the state’s 48,000 hunters spending approximately 300,000 days in the field each year throughout regional Victoria,” he said. “The guide supports hunters by providing important information to help them comply with the law and hunt safely, sustainably and responsibly.”

In addition to being available online, the 2016 Victorian Hunting Guide will be mailed to more than 48,000 licensed game hunters in the coming weeks. Hard copies of the guide will become available from selected Game Management Authority, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, and Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources regional offices and some hunting retail stores. A Game Hunting Victoria smart phone app will also be updated soon with the latest hunting information.
