Knee-jerk response to bikie gang shootings

Recent shootings involving outlaw motorcycle gangs in the nation’s capital have prompted another illogical call to tighten gun laws by a police officer. An ongoing feud between two outlaw bikie groups, which reportedly saw a machine gun used in a drive-by shooting in Canberra’s south, somehow inspired chief police officer Justine Saunders to float tightening gun laws as an apparent solution to the violence.

The SSAA-LA cautions against such an illogical, knee-jerk response, especially when the evidence clearly shows that further restrictions on law-abiding firearm owners does not stop organised crime groups.
