Tackling the feral pig problem head on
30 July 2018
Feral pigs are a huge problem and constant headache for Australia’s animal and crop farmers alike. SSAA member and renowned ‘Wildlife Man’ David Ireland takes us on a wild ride through a night-time pig hunt where he accounts for a few of the feral pests, and invites responsible hunters to do their bit in helping the men and women who farm the land by registering for our Farmer Assist program.
David has spoken to farmers in the front line fight against feral pigs and seen firsthand the devastation they leave in their wake. One cattle farmer tells how his main water supply was rendered unusable after being infected by pig droppings, while another recounts a nightmare nine-day stay in intensive care after contracting the potentially-fatal Q fever.
